Indian summer at the barn

I went to the barn today to see some of my equine buddies.

They were just hangin’ out in the sun enjoying a quiet day— no lessons this afternoon, but plenty of kisses.

“Who, us?”

I took a walk around the barn and said hello to the calico cat who was too eager for petting to let me take a picture of her, breathed in the barn smell, and enjoyed the friendly nickers each horse gave me as I walked by.

It was a gorgeous day, chilly enough to be sweatshirt weather but so sunny it felt like early May. The drive to the barn is my favorite drive I make all week– there are so many trees with an abundance of leaves left on them even after the storm. I snapped a quick picture from the barn driveway, and it doesn’t do justice to the autumn colors, but I hope you have some of the same splendor where you are so you can picture it.

Speaking of color, we had pappardelle with avocado sauce and roasted tomatoes for dinner tonight, and look how beautiful those tomatoes were going into the oven! I love pretty food. It’s a simple joy but it makes dinner feel so rich.
